Syngenta Tenacity Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Mesotrione (40%)

Overview:Syngenta Tenacity is a selective post-emergence herbicide that offers superior control of a wide range of grassy and broadleaf weeds in turf and ornamental landscapes. With the active ingredient Mesotrione, it works by inhibiting the production of pigments in the targeted plants, causing them to gradually bleach and die, while remaining safe for established turfgrass when used as directed.

Benefits:

  • Effective against a broad spectrum of weeds, including many that are resistant to other herbicides.

  • Provides early control of weeds, allowing for improved turf quality and establishment.

  • Visible symptoms of weed control appear quickly, with most weeds showing signs of injury within a few days.

  • Flexible application timing, which provides options for pre- and post-emergence control.

  • Low volatility and low risk of leaching, making it an environmentally responsible choice.

  • Compatible with most turfgrass types, offering broad utility across various landscapes.

Weeds Controlled:

  • Grassy Weeds:Crabgrass (Digitaria spp.)
    Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli)
    Goosegrass (Eleusine indica)
    Foxtail species (Setaria spp.)
    Annual bluegrass (Poa annua)
    Witchgrass (Panicum capillare)
    Broadleaf signalgrass (Urochloa platyphylla)

  • Broadleaf Weeds:Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
    Clover species (Trifolium spp.)
    Plantain (Plantago spp.)
    Purslane (Portulaca oleracea)
    Thistle species (Cirsium spp.)
    Bindweed (Convolvulus spp.)
    Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea)
    Chickweed (Stellaria media)

Application Rates:

  • Turfgrass Areas: Apply 4-8 fluid ounces per acre. Rates depend on the specific weed species targeted and the timing of application.

    • Weed Type and Stage of Growth:For pre-emergence control, apply in the spring before weed germination. For post-emergence control, apply when weeds are actively growing, typically in the early stages of development.

Application Restrictions:

  • Rainfastness: Avoid irrigation or rainfall for at least 1 hour after application to allow for proper absorption.

  • Temperature Limits: Do not apply when temperatures are expected to exceed 90°F (32°C) within 24 hours of application.

  • Avoid Use in Certain Conditions: Do not apply to turfgrass under stress from drought, disease, or other environmental conditions, as it may lead to injury.

  • Avoid Overuse: Repeated use in a single season can lead to reduced effectiveness. Consult label for guidance on maximum annual rates.

Safety:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective clothing, including gloves, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and eye protection when mixing or applying Tenacity.

  • Toxicity: Tenacity is considered low toxicity to humans and animals when used according to label instructions, but avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with water.

  • Environmental Hazards: Mesotrione can be toxic to non-target plants. Avoid drift to sensitive plants such as broadleaf crops or ornamental species.

  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from heat, open flames, or food. Keep the container tightly sealed and out of reach of children and pets.
